What is Government Gate Plus (Ügyfélkapu+)?

Ügyfélkapu+ is the upgraded version of the old Government Gate system, featuring modern security solutions. Essentially, Government Gate Plus functions like the original Government Gate but with improved security due to the implementation of two-factor authentication. Your username and password will remain the same, but you’ll need to confirm your login attempt via a mobile device to ensure that it’s genuinely you and not someone else attempting to access your account.

Requirements for using the new Ügyfélkapu+:

  • A valid existing Government Gate (Ügyfélkapu) registration,
  • A smartphone or tablet,
  • An authenticator application (e.g., Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator).

Why is the transition important?

If you do not switch to Government Gate Plus in time, you may lose access to electronic administration systems. From now on, state websites and applications will only allow login via this new method.

Installing an Authenticator Application

Before using Ügyfélkapu+, download one of the following authenticator apps:

  • Android: Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator
  • iOS: Microsoft Authenticator

If you don’t have a smartphone or tablet, you can use web-based authenticators like TOTP.APP or Verifyr (these are English-language software, with the latter requiring registration) but we highly recommend using the mobile options.

How to Register for Ügyfélkapu+:

Follow these steps:

  1. Visit the ugyfelkapu.gov.hu website on your computer.
  2. Click the Login button and select the traditional white-background Ügyfélkapu interface.
  3. Enter your username and password, then log in.
  4. Once logged in, click on the Request Ügyfélkapu+ option.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions and click Proceed to Request Ügyfélkapu+.
  6. During the process, a QR code will appear on your screen. Open your authenticator app and scan the QR code. (Tip: if you cannot scan the QR code, click the “Cannot scan the QR code” option below it. You will receive a 16-character key, which should be saved in a secure location as you may need it later. If your authenticator app or device doesn’t scan the code, manually enter the 16-character key.)
  7. After setting up authentication, re-enter your Ügyfélkapu password and the 6-digit code generated by the authenticator app.
  8. At the end of the process, save the Ügyfélkapu+ recovery code, which will be required for future account recovery.
  9. After noting the recovery code, check the box and click Finish.

This completes the setup process, and your Ügyfélkapu+ authentication is now active. Make sure to keep the saved codes secure, as you might need them in the future!

Important:

From now on, you’ll only be able to log in to state websites and applications using Ügyfélkapu+ with two-factor authentication.

Logging In:

  • Open the Ügyfélkapu website and click Login.
  • Select the Ügyfélkapu+ option.
  • Enter your username and password.
  • Open the authenticator app installed on your smartphone or tablet and enter the code generated by the app.
